Text: Psalm 119:11; Joshua 1:8; Jeremiah 15:16

Psalm 119:11 – 11 I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Explanation of Psalm 119:11

119: 11   Hiding means keeping God’s Word in our hearts to deter sin. This alone should inspire us to understand, meditate on, review, and memorize Scripture. But these practices on their own will not keep us from sinning; we must also put God’s Word to work in our lives, making it a vital guide for everything we do.

Each time you read the Bible, ask, “Lord, what can I do to put this Scripture into practice today?

Joshua 1:8 – 8Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.

Jeremiah 15:16 – Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.

What is Meditation?

The word meditate, stems from the Latin word root meditatum, meaning to ponder. pondering on the word of God. Apart from memorizing, Joshua was strictly instructed to meditate daily on the word in Joshua 1:8. Also, David said in Psalm 119:11, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.”

Therefore, there are many benefits that come with meditating in the word of God.

Meditation means “the act of focusing one’s thoughts”: to ponder or think on.

Meditation consists of reflective thinking or contemplation, usually on specific subject to decern its meaning or significance or a plan of action.

Meditation is called imagination, the creation of images by the spirit.

Meditation is where your mind is called to start creating…. Creating solutions to problems.

Isaiah 55:8-9. “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. +       9For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
  • Meditating on God’s word is the way to grow our faith in God. Faith comes by hearing…. Rom 10:17
